Filteraition Project Reflection

Mr. Ray asked our class to do a project where we had to make a filter and research how filters work. I was nervous before the project started because I felt filtration was a complicated subject. However, I was excited about doing the hands-on part of the experiment to see what would and wouldn’t work. Specifically how different filter materials would impact the purity of the water. To make our project stand out, we additionally focused on the physical appearance because even though the research was important, the judges’ first impression was essential. What helped my team succeed was ensuring I fully understood the scientific background and rubric of the assignment. This made it easier to explain to the judges the underlying problem and solution rather than memorizing the text on the board. Part of the project I would do differently is provide greater detail on the real-world connection to the experiment. Specifically, why filtration is important to the environment and people’s daily lives. The filtration project was exciting and educational because we were able able to do hands-on work to understand a real-world problem. Even though I was slightly nervous, the project was not as complicated as I had assumed. I look forward to working on future experiments that link science to my everyday experiences.

Here is a picture of my filter.

Social Studies Project

In social studies, Mr. Wash asked us to make a project on climate factors. for this project, Charlotte and I chose air masses. Two facts about air masses are…

1: It has nearly uniform conditions of temperature and humidity at any given level of altitude.

2: They extend thousands of kilometers across the surface of the Earth and can reach from ground level to the stratosphere.

Here is our air mass project

Hurricane Ian News Report

For this hurricane project, I chose Hurricane Ian. The purpose of this assignment was to choose a hurricane that happened and write about it. More specifically, we had to write about how the hurricane affected the region, how the hurricane was formed, what damage was caused by the hurricane, and stories about people’s personal experiences with this hurricane. The goal for this project was to present the information like a news report instead of an essay. For example, I used a canvas template to make it look more like a news report. The three main things I learned during this project included: how to write a news report, how badly hurricanes affect people’s lives, and how hurricanes are formed. If I were to do this project again, I would make sure to put the topics in an organized order so the information is easier to understand.

Jewish Values

For this project, we were asked to pick five Jewish values and describe each one of them. More specifically, we were asked to identify how these values are incorporated into our daily lives, the reasons why we think the value is important, and provide a reference from the Torah that speaks to the value. The values I chose included respect, kindness, truth, forgiveness, and fairness. My partner Charlotte and I thought that these were the most important and relevant Jewish values to us. Through the process of this project, I learned more about these values. I also learned to be able to incorporate the values into my everyday life and improve as a person. Below is my  Jewish values project.

Innovation day

Hi, For innovation day this year we did an electricity project for science. For my project  Eliya and I did foosball. This was my favorite innovation project I have done so far. The part I was most excited about was definitely being able to do hands-on work and actually make an electricity game. It was really fun. But the part I was most nervous about was that our project was not actually going to work because Eliya and I have never used electric circuits before but luckily we ended up figuring it out and it actually turned out really good. One thing that really surprised me while doing this project was probably that using the circuits was a lot easier than I thought it would be. It was still hard but definitely easier than I thought. There were definitely parts where we could improve but the main part I think we could do better is our buzzer because somehow the buzzer would go off at random times which was definitely very annoying. For innovation day we had to present our project to our parents. I was kind of nervous about that part because I was nervous they would not like it. But the parents we presented in front of liked our project so that was good. For our foosball Eliya and I got second place for our grade we were very happy.  Here is a video of our electricity project.

What I learned during this project was how to work circuits and how to make games. It was fun to learn all about the circuits and how to make games. This was very fun to learn all about electricity and this project was also very fun.

The Villain Association of Paris (VAP) told me I could make the ultimate secret lair for a new villain in town. The Paris Villain Association is the baddest, most evil, villain association in the entire world. They have stolen from every single high-end store in Paris. This is the first lair I have ever designed so I was incredibly nervous. But in the end, it actually turned out to be quite impressive.

I live in Paris and the secret lair that I designed is very deep underground. In fact, the lair is right under the Eiffel Tower! The lair is rather large and covers an area of approximately 80 acres. There are over 500 workers (who are of course robots) tasked with coming up with plans for evil crimes within Paris. All the best ideas go straight to the head villain who then gets to prioritize the best ones for the next week’s crime spree.

The lair could be considered expensive by some, costing over $100 billion. All that money was a hassle to steal and some banks in town had to be robbed more than once. The first floor of the lair is for all the electronic gadgets and gizmos. For example, a giant robot that has red glowing eyes that will shoot lasers at you if you make eye contact. There are also small mechanical spiders that can melt electronics with their acid webs and instantly paralyze a human with a single bite. The second floor of the lair is the science lab. Obviously, this involves lots of chemicals and testing ways to blow stuff up. We had to invent special soundproofing because it was impacting the precious sleep routine of the villain.

The final and third floor is where the supervillain lives. He is 12.5 feet tall and therefore I designed the roof to be a mere 100 feet to allow for some casual flying around. By request, the floor is made of trampolines. He is just a kid at heart and his favorite thing to do is jump and think of any ideas to ruin Paris. I guess it’s a special way of meditating, he jumps for a while and then ideas pop into his head. This playfulness is reflected in a different playground on each floor. There are giant water slides that connect the playgrounds and various automatic swings that go in all directions. And the crown jewel is a rollercoaster that only he is allowed to ride. He really likes fun stuff for some reason.

On the third floor next to his sleeping area is the super-secret, extra-secure vault. The vault was originally in the science lab but had to be moved after some issues with robot zombies trying to break in. The vault contains billions of dollars and priceless art such as the Mona Lisa (the real one). It is impossible to get into the vault unless you are the main villain or you have a copy of his DNA and a 100 digit pin code that changes every second.

The kitchen, which is also on the third floor, has all of the best foods Paris has to offer. To keep costs down they steal all of the food from the top restaurants. Except for baguettes and croissants, those need to be made fresh.

Now, this lair is quite different from most typical supervillain lairs. First, according to the online magazine Lair-Today, it is triple the size of anything else. Second, (and I’m quite proud of this) most floors and ceilings are aquariums containing sharks, electric eels, and other deadly sea creatures. Third, the lair offers exceptional work areas to help with job satisfaction for the evil robots given the stressful nature of their work and the importance the villain puts on mental health.

As you can imagine, it is extremely hard and arguably impossible to break into the lair. The Paris police even help protect it by providing security for the Eiffel Tower. But, if by some very unlikely miracle, someone did break in there are alarms everywhere. They have face scanners, x-ray scanners, and even voice scanners at every door. If you are not the supervillain (or one of his invited guests) alarms will go off and you will be trapped in a cage that will come down from the ceiling. Then you would later be investigated by some of the robots and either used for robot target practice or fed to the sharks. Uh oh, the alarm just went off. Someone just broke into the secret lair!!

From The Mixed Up Files Of Mrs Basil .E Frankweiler

My class had a project where we made an artifact based on a book we read. My book was called ‘From The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E Frankwheeler’ by e.l. Konigsburg.

The reason I chose my specific artifact, the children’s book, is that I like to draw. I think pictures help explain what is happening in the story. In my story, Claudia and Jamie go on an adventure and it is easier to picture with visuals. I chose the elements that I did in my artifact by choosing the ones that are most important. For example, I added how the children ran away.

If I were to go through this process again, I would have chosen which artifact I would do earlier. For example, if I knew that I was doing the comic I could have taken specific notes and I would have read the story with more of a critical mindset. There are several ways I could have prepared differently for this project. I would write the notes in a different way. I would have the notes next to me while reading to jot information down. I would make a list of the key parts of the story.

Here is a link to my children’s book – The Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil. E I really enjoyed doing this project. It was fun to be able to create my own book.

Creative Writing

Hi,  this is my blog post on what I think life will be like in 2057.

I hope that in 2057 there will be flying cars. It sounds fun and probably good for traffic and the environment. However, I’m not sure humans are smart enough to build what I’m thinking. I think the solution is artificially intelligent robots that are made by the smartest humans on the planet. Elon Musk could help but I’m not sure he is smart enough for a world of traffic jams in the air. Flying cars will change the world. The hard part isn’t making a flying car, it’s finding the roads and safety strategies for them to exist.

In addition to flying cars, I hope there will be new inventions like robots in everyone’s home. Not just roombas or Alexa’s but real walking and talking robots. Elon Musk says this will all be a reality in 2026 when the first people go to Mars. I would 100% volunteer to go to Mars for the first visit in 2026.  I’m not sure it would make my family happy but I bet they would need all sorts of inventions. Maybe on Mars, they need humans that can fly with wings like a butterfly. Maybe Mars in the future will sell gravity wings at Marsmart so allpark the kids that don’t have money will fly too. Also, I assume that movie theaters on Mars will have floating seats because gravity shouldn’t really exist in the future.
